Read moreUnited travelled to Whitstable to play Rising Stars on the 21st April for their last league game of their 23/24 EKYL season. Both sides continued to take part in the FA/EKYL ‘no heading trial’.
With a squad of 12, United captain Will D led the team out on a blustery pitch that had seen better days and was clearly showing its heavy use throughout the season. Previous meetings between the 2 sides had always been close contests with limited opportunities and battling midfield encounters.
The first half lived up to expectations with strong battles in the centre of the field but Risers were able to take an edge with opportunities to threaten the United goal on several occasions. United however were able to repel the advances and going into the break, there was little to separate the sides.
The second half continued in a similar fashion with the United defence and keeper kept busy frustrating the home side. With no subs, Rising Stars showed great stamina and strength when the Nuts & Bolts countered and threatened as the game progressed in the back half of the second 30. The game wrapped with Risers continuing to be strong centrally and keeping United in a more defensive footing up to the final whistle.
The Clarus Homes sponsored squad now take a short break before post-season friendlies and smaller sided tournaments take place throughout May & June. The squad will return to league football in the EKYL division A in September in ‘officially’ competitive games.
All the players and management would like to thank the club and its supporters, all the parents for their support and for bringing players around the county each week, parent line officials volunteers for what can be a thankless job each week and lastly to our team sponsor Clarus Homes.
We will return with match stats and reports in September!
Captain: Will D
Parents man of the match: Oliver
