ASHFORD UNITED Vs KENNINGTON YOUTH

United U11 welcomed Kennington to Homelands on Sunday for their 2nd derby game this season. Back on home (artificial) turf for the first time this season, United were keen to round out their last home match of the season with a strong performance. Both sides continued to take part in the FA/EKYL ‘no heading trial’.

With a full 15 squad, United captain Dan led the team out on a warm but windy pitch.

The visitors showed early good movement on the ball, but United were an even match for the first 10 minutes until the United keeper was caught out of position and Kennington were able to capitalise. For much of the first half the sides continued to parry back and forth with opportunities emerging more for the nuts & Bolts as the half progressed. With the seconds ticking down to half time, United won a free kick just outside of the Kennington box and a strong strike meant there was nothing to separate the sides at half time.

With momentum before the break, United were hoping for that to continue into the second half and with 6 subs, United had options to dial up the pressure. Kennington remained composed however, and they continued a sharpness in pass and first touch that repeatedly overwhelmed the home side midfield and threatened the United defences.

As the half progressed, unforced errors gave Kennington more threatening opportunities, The home side however continued to battle right up to the final whistle with a crowd-pleasing blast at goal from distance rounded out the match.

The Clarus Homes sponsored squad travel to Whitstable next Sunday to round out their 23/24 EKYL campaign.
