Faversham Trophies League Cup Quarter Final

Junior Elite Under 15s 2-1 Ashford United Under 15s

Venue – Club Langley, Beckenham

Last Sunday the Ashford United (U15) Kent Youth League team were in action away to Junior Elite in the league cup quarter finals. Before the match little was known about Junior Elite as they have currently only played 5 league games this season due to postponements but the lads were advised that this would be a physical game and so it turned out to be. From the first whistle this was an end to end game with both teams making some good chances and strong counter attacks and Ashford took the early lead in the 10th minute when a late challenge in the box left the referee with no option but to award a penalty, up stepped Ashford skipper Alfie Prior who without hesitation powered home the first goal of the game. Ashford nearly had a second in the 33rd minute when a last man challenge on Gus Barnes just outside the box gave the Nuts and Bolts boys a free kick which was just wide of the mark.
Junior Elite found the equaliser in the 38th minute of the first half and the teams went to the break 1-1.

The second half saw Junior Elite adopt a far more physical style but the Nuts and Bolts boys were up to the task giving as good as they got, unfortunatley heavy challenges during the second period saw three Ashford players having to sit out the rest of the game due to injuries. Another last man challenge on Gus Barnes awarded Ashford another chance at goal but the shot was parried away by the keeper. Sadly for the Ashford lads their league cup run came to an end in the last few minutes of the match when Junior Elite found the decisive goal and closed the game winning 2-1. Next week however the lads are in cup action again as they face Rochester in the Kent Cup.
