A valiant effort this season!
Sunday 12th May 2019
Kent Youth League Central Division
Holmesdale Under 15s 0-1 Ashford United Under 15s
Venue – Holmesdale FC, Bromley
By Ross Shardlow
With just 2 games left to play of the standard season, the Ashford Utd lads travelled to Bromley to face Holmesdale. Holmesdale have always been tough opposition and when the two sides last met, Ashford came away victors 3-2 and this Sunday’s game was another test for the Nuts n Bolts. During the early part of the game neither team really had the advantage and the ball rarely got past either defensive line.
It was Ashford who broke the deadlock when a foul 22 yards from the goal brought George McIlroy down and the Ashford boys were awarded the free kick. Up stepped Skipper Alfie Prior who beat the Holmesdale keeper to put Ashford ahead. The remainder of the first half saw Ashford just start to take the advantage possession wise and the teams went into the break with the visitors carrying a 1-0 lead.
The only real scare for Ashford came in the 3rd minute of the second half when a Holmesdale freekick went sailing over Keeper Matt Lanes’ crossbar and apart from when his defenders fed the ball back he had little more to do. Although no more goals were to come it was Ashford who were showing the most promise but on a day when very few decisions went their way the lads stayed strong and didn’t allow the frustration to effect their formation and although they came close a couple of times, the game finished with Ashford winning 1-0. Ashford will finish the season this Friday when they face Tonbridge Angels at Homelands Stadium.
A massive well done to all involved!
