Kent Under 15s Boys Youth Cup Final

Ebbsfleet United Under 15s 1-4 Ashford United Under 15s

Venue – Salter’s Lane, Faversham

Last Sunday was Cup Final day for the Ashford Utd Kent Youth League Under 15’s team where they face league rivals Ebbsfleet Utd. The Nuts and Bolts boys’ road to the cup final saw them face Welling Utd in round 1, Rainham Kennilworth in round 2, Holmesdale FC in round 3 followed by a quarter final against Rochester Utd and then local rivals Kennington Juniors in the semi final. During the run to the final, Ashford grew stronger as the competition went on but they knew they faced a tough challenge against a very strong Ebbsfleet team who had made it to the final for 3 years running and were last years’ winners. The teams were lead out in front of the near 300 spectators to a thunderous round of applause with each person watching knowing that a very good game of football was about to be played.

With Ashford winning the toss the game started with an immediate attack on goal but Ebbsfleet were ready and the first 10 minutes was end to end and very fast. It wasn’t long before the first goal of the game came when in the 12th minute Ashford broke through the oppositions midfield and cleared a path for a 30 yard solo effort by Ronald Sithole who gave Ashford the lead. Not to be outdone Ebbsfleet responded just 7 minutes later to draw level. Ashford’s defence showed their strength by holding a high line and keeping the opposition out of range of keeper Matt Lane apart from one ranging shot which he dealt with in an athletic manner. This high line allowed the midfield to again set Ronald Sithole free when a sweet pass from Gus Barnes gave Ronald and Ashford their second with only moments to play in the first half and the teams went into the break with Ashford leading 2-1.

During the early stages of the second half it was Ashford who capitalised on their advantage with some early chances on the Ebbsfleet goal but it took a full 20 minutes before Ebbsfleet gave away a free kick 10 yards from their own box. Ashford Captain Alfie Prior curved his free kick across they face of the goal and connected with George McIroy at the far post who headed home Ashford’s 3rd, at this point Ebbsfleet seemed to have very little in response and the Nuts and Bolts lads kept the pressure on. With just 4 minutes remaining an error by the Ebbsfleet keeper was dealt with by Ronald Sithole who struck home Ashfords 4th goal and in doing so got his hat-trick.

At the final whistle the whole of the Ashford team ran to each over to celebrate their very well deserved win. Managers Martyn Halls and Kyle Galea said after the game that each and everyone of the team had given their all and thoroughly deserved to be crowned Kent County Cup 2019 Champions. Ronald Sithole was awarded the match ball for his hat-trick and was also voted Man of the Match by the Kent FA Officials. The team would like to thank everyone who came and supported them and who have continued to support them throughout the season.
