Kent Youth League Under 15s Central Division
Maidstone United Under 15s 1-1 Ashford United Under 15s
Venue – Gallagher Stadium
After their game being cancelled last week due to a water logged pitch the Ashford United Kent League lads were back in action this weekend when they travelled to the Gallagher Stadium to face Maidstone United. This match was always going to be one of the toughest challenges of the season as the two teams are strongly expected to be the top two by seasons end and true to expectation an exciting match was to follow. During the first half it was hard to separate the two teams with Maidstone just having the edge during the first 15 minutes of play when they took the lead when Ashford keeper Matt Lane was barged of the ball and into his own net followed by the ball but the ref allowed the goal. It was at this point that the Nuts & Bolts boys stepped upped the anti and started to get control of possession with two shots on target having to be parried away by the Maidstone keeper. After the break Ashford looked dominant and took complete control of the game, keeping Maidstone pinned in their own half for large portions of play but yet again the Maidstone keeper kept them in the game by making 4 great saves in 20 minutes. Ashfords reply finally came in the 66th minute when new signing Egid Aydin created the pass that allowed Skipper Alfie Prior slot home the equaliser to an eruption of cheers and applause from team and fans alike. Ashford created a further 4 shots on target during the remainder of the game and showed true dominance but each time being kept out by the oppositions fantastic keeper and the match drew to a close with a 1-1 draw but the home leg later in the season is one that Ashford is excitedly looking forward to.
