Kent County Cup Round Two

Ashford United Under 15s 4-2 Rainham Kenilworth Under 15s

Last weekend Ashford United’s U15 Kent Youth League team were in action in round 2 of the Kent County Cup and saw them travel to the Medway Towns to face Rainham Kenilworth (currently 2nd in the Medway Messenger Youth League Division 1).The lads travelled very under manned as the team had two players away at a European Academy Tournament, one player unavailable and two players injured but the whole team travelled still buoyed by there recent run of good form and results. Within 4 minutes of kick off Ashford’s first goal came from an assist by Jeremiah which found Ronald Sithole who struck the back of the net, the second came 20 minutes later when a through pass from Jeremiah which split the Rainham defence found Paddy Underhill who obliged by beating the keeper. Only a few moments later a short corner from Harry Sikirwayi to Gus Barnes wrong footed the opposition and Gus smashed home Ashfords 3rd. The Nuts and Bolts boys finished out the half in complete control but just could not convert the multiple chance that they created. Having gone into the break with a 3-0 lead Ashford were caught napping twice early into the second session of play when Rainham got the score to 3-2 with both goals coming from set pieces, this wake up call brought the boys back to life and reminded them that there was still a game to be played but when Jeremiah slotted home Ashfords 4th goal in the 75th minute the game was put to bed and Rainham had no more response. Ashford now go onto the 3rd round of the Kent County Cup.
