Kent Youth League Central Division

Bearsted Under 15s 2-2 Ashford United Under 15s

Venue – Otham Sports Club, Bearsted.

Last Sunday, Ashford United played Bearsted at Otham Sports Club in their first game of the New Year. Due to availability the match was played on what is probably the smallest pitch in the central league and such a small pitch does not favour Ashford, add in the fact the playing surface was also poorly maintained, the Nuts ‘n’ Bolts lads struggled to find their usual flowing style. The first goal came in the 12th minute when a solo effort from Rowan Shardlow gave Ashford the early lead, the second came just 6 minutes later when Rowan Shardlow was in the mix again when he made the pass that set up George McIlroy for Ashfords 2nd. With their 2 early goals Ashford seemed to take their foot off the gas and with the last kick of the half Bearsted brought the score to 2-1 against the flow of play. During the second half Ashford just couldn’t seem to find their mojo and in the 12th minute Bearsted found the equaliser but the Nuts ‘n’ Bolts lads did’t let their heads go down and went on the offensive with numerous chances at the Bearsted goal. Due to the small size of the pitch and the fact that Bearsted pulled all their players back into a defensive roll, Ashford just couldn’t get a clear ball through the wall of bodies and the game ended 2-2 and a first draw of the season for United.
