Kent Youth League Central Division

Tonbridge Angels Under 15s 0-2 Ashford United Under 15s

Having had a break for the Easter weekend the Ashford Utd (U15) Kent Youth League boys were in action last Sunday when they were away to Tonbridge Angels at their Hadlow College ground. Even though there are only a few more games to play this was the first time in the current season that the two sides had met.

Early on it was Ashford who looked more dominant as they settled into playing a controlled game and made sure that they kept possession of the ball for long periods with the back 4 not releasing the ball forward until they saw a viable attacking option and the teams patience was rewarded in the 24th minute when a move up the right wing meant that as Gus Barnes powered into the Tonbridge box he was bought down and Ashford were awarded the penalty which was struck home by Gus and the Nuts & Bolts lads took the lead. It took Ashford only a further 6 minutes to extend their lead after a whole team effort with the ball being played across the defence line through the midfield to the feet of Rueben London-Hobbs who un-selfishly laid the ball to the feet of Patrick Underhill who slotted home the second of the day. The first half drew to a close as it had started with Ashford looking the more dominant of the two sides.

During the second half Ashford’s Managers decided to mix up the teams usual formation and try some of the lads in different positions which they could only do as Tonbridge never really looked to be much of an attacking threat and although the opposition team started to get a bit more of the ball it was still the Nuts & Bolts boys who came the closest to scoring with 3 chances just missing the target and the game came to an end with Ashford taking a comfortable win 2-0.
