Sunday 9th December 2018
Kent Youth League Central Division
Ashford United Under 15s 4-2 Langton Green Under 15s
Venue – Homelands Stadium
After losing for the first time since April last Sunday Ashford Uniteds Kent Youth League (U15) team were back to winning ways this weekend when they faced 4th place Langton Green at Homelands Stadium. Although Manager Martyn Halls only had two spare players on his bench the team set out with a strong game plan from the off and for the first part of the half Ashford were told to play tight pass and go football and to keep possession and the boys obliged the management team and rarely looked under much pressure.
The games first goal came in the 22nd minute when a re-bound from the Langton Green keeper fell in front of Harry Sikiwayi who found his mark to give Ashford the early lead. The Nuts & Bolts boys continued with the lions share of possession until a long range pass from Rowan Shardlow landed favourable for Rueben London-Hobbs who found the back of the net just before the break to give the home side a 2 goal lead. Langton Green found themselves back in the game 10 minutes into the second half when a mis-understanding between the Referee and The Ashford management during a substitution allowed the visitors to catch Ashford un-aware. During a period when Ashford found themselves a little dis-organised Langton Green slotted home an equaliser but with a quick re-shuffle and 2 substitutions by Ashford coach Kyle Galea the home side soon settled back down and started to take control again. Ashford’s 3rd goal came after a penalty was awarded which was taken by skipper Adam Potten who wrong sided the Langton keeper. The home teams 4th came with 7 minutes of normal time remaining when a right wing charge and pinpoint pass from Rowan Shardlow landed perfectly for Jeremiah Bamgbose who powered home the final goal of the game to give Ashford the win by 4 goals to 2. Next Sunday the Nuts & Bolts lads are at home to Greenway Aces for their final game before the much deserved Christmas break.
