Welford eyes league success for the Nuts & Bolts…

We bring to you the latest in a line of comments from the management and players of A.U.F.C, we hope to make this a regular feature here at

Today we have a few words from our Golden boot winner of last season, our favourite Geordie, the youthful..

I’ve been in football a lot of years and have had quite a bit of success so I know the ingredients of a successful team when I see it! And we’re not too far short of that at the minute.
So there will be plenty of work done by Danny and the rest of us in the management set up close season bringing the right personnel in and getting the boys fit and ready to win this league next season!
On a personal note I’m a bit gutted about not winning silverware last season after going on some great runs in both league and cups, it’ll be a little different this season as we’ve got the reins from the offset and we can hit the ground running putting our stamp on things starting pre-season, obviously you’ve all seen the friendlies we’ve organised, all but one are from higher leagues, this should stand the boys in good stead for the opener in August.
It’s inevitable that there will be a few comings and goings during the close season that’s football, but such is the team morale and the ‘banter’ between the lads I’d be surprised if many would want to leave this football club, the boys showed great character last season even when things weren’t going our way on and off the pitch, again ingredients of a special bunch.

On to the fans, in my eyes definitely our ’12th man’, I’ve some great memories of last season playing, but one of the funniest events was off the pitch over at Cray valley where we played Erith Town, a group of about 5 of our supporters managed to get into our changing room and have a bit of a celebration with us, something the Erith management team took offence to and gave them a bit of a soaking with water!

On a serious note the support last year was second to none, a lot travelling up north and over to Salisbury as well as turning up week in week out, I’m aware of the time and expense and can’t thank them enough, they were fantastic!
But it all starts again in a couple of months so I’m hoping they’ve given their voice boxes enough rest and are preparing to roar us to glory next season. I’ve got a really good feeling about next season and can’t wait to get started and hope the fans get behind us and join us for the ride!

Come on you Nuts and Bolts!!!!!!!

Shaun Welford.
These latest words from Shaun really does show just how important all of our supporters are to the squad, and also just how much they appreciate our efforts in supporting them week in week out.
