Update following Lye’s departure

Jason Whitmore's green and white army!

Tomorrow we take on Redhill FC in the Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup, away in Surrey 3pm kick off.

We can confirm that our Under 21’s manager, who has been heavily involved in the youth set up of Ashford United for many years, Jason Whitmore will take charge of tomorrow’s match as caretaker manager.

He will be working alongside coaches Lee Shearer and Tim McRae who are also involved in our youth system.

Jason Whitmore told this editor:

“I have been working hard these last 24 hours to prepare the squad for this weekend, and trained with the first team last night with the help of coach Barry Fuller.

I am looking for us to play football and to get the fans excited about watching Ashford United.”

Our new caretaker manager will be using a mix of the first team squad and our U21’s who have impressed over recent months.

“Tyrell and Walker won’t be available tomorrow, so it gives the younger lads a chance to impress, especially those who are desperate to play for their local club. Lee Shearer has also registered as a player, along with Ed Miller, Kieran Bull and Trinnhallen Brisley. We will use the senior players as the spine of the team and use the U21s to develop around them.”

Finally, Jason thanked his predecessor:

“Thank you to Dan Lye for everything he done for the club, especially last season. Without his hard work we wouldn’t be where we are today, so we are all very grateful.”
