Season of tragedy and success for our brave under 12’s.

The league was for you CONNOR!!!

This is an emotional article written by Paul MacDonald and Mary Daly. Congratulations on guiding our future stars through a very difficult time, and ultimately into little champions!!

The League was for you CONNOR!

Ashford United Juniors were crowded Champions of Ashford & District Under 12’s at Ball Lane on Saturday, in what was a very hard season for the boys and management.

Manager, Paul MacDonald lost he’s youngest son Connor on 27th October in an drowning accident in Dymchurch.

Paul said, ‘ Football was Connors life, he was a gifted player and already being spotted by several clubs. I nearly gave up, but I knew he would want me to keep going, as his brothers Declan & Joe love football too’.

Mary Daly who helps Paul run the team said,
Connor’s death effected everyone that knew him and read about the terrible accident but for these group of boys, it has been an emotionally difficult time for them as they are only 11 /12 years!

Connor was there when we set up the team and at our first training session and every match for the last 3 years.
The boys have shown great, courage, passion and at times cried, looking around and not seeing Connor.

They wanted to win the title for Paul, and Connor. Week in week out they gave it there all.

I am so very proud to be part of this special group of boys and we are so lucky to have great supportive parents.

After the presentation all the boys and parents went back to Mary’s house for a BBQ and celebration party.

We feel a bit like Leicester, Mary said, this team was made up from boys not getting minutes on the pitch with other teams. We do our best to nurture them and let them enjoy the beautiful game of football as all any child wants to do is to play matches.
Like Leicester, the IMPOSSIBLE can be POSSIBLE and DREAMS do come true.

What a lovely memory for these boys, to have forever, in what has been a season of such tragedy.
