We welcome our old Kent league rivals to Homelands!

This Saturday 17th March 2018, we welcome our old rivals from the Kent League and SCEFL days, Phoenix Sports to Homelands for a 3pm kick off.

We faced Phoenix away earlier this season in October though unfortunately went home after a 2-0 defeat.

Phoenix won their last game, a 3-1 victory at home to Herne Bay, though before that they hadn’t won in 6 games picking up just one point.

They currently sit in 9th place on 54 points, though 8 points behind Whyteleafe in 8th place.

Our match this weekend will re-spark our rivalry which we went without for the last 2 seasons, though Phoenix have a much better record as before this season we had 1 win in 6 league games and 1 in two cup matches.

The meetings in that final 14-15 season were eventful. Both were in the final month of the season and they were by now still unbeaten and virtually assured of the title. We put out a team comprising Mant, A Cuthbert, L Cuthbert, Collado, Lye, Kingwell, Clarke, Phillips, Zanone, Marsden, Scorer (subs .Mickleborough, Byrne, Smissen). The match started badly with future manager Danny Lye being sent off after only12 minutes but we held on until the 53rd minute when Phoenix scored. Mickleborough and Byrne then replaced Collado and Marsden and Phillips levelled from the spot. With a few minutes left, Smissen replaced Scorer and in the 89th Byrne popped up with the winner. The game here was the last home of the season and with the title won we held them to a 0-0 draw securing second place for us again. Phoenix finished with 93 points from the 38 games – one more than our total last season.

Just 4 home games left this season, so make sure you get down to Homelands and support the lads!
