Match Preview: Guernsey We're all going on a 'European' tour! This coming weekend we take on Guernsey FC away at Footes Lane, Guernsey on Saturday 27th January, please take note that kick off is at 2pm. There seems to be a large number of Nuts & Bolts fans travelling to this fixture and we are delighted to hear that. We are all very proud of our support and it is definitely something to boast about at this level of football. Thank you in advance to those who are making the journey, whether it’s for the day or the weekend, by plane or by ferry, all the players and staff really appreciate the massive effort that is going into this away day. For those who will be in attendance, a friendly reminder that you are representing both the club and our town, and we would like the reputation of both to only be affected in a positive manner. We know for a fact there will be a lot of alcohol consumption across the weekend from many of our fans, which of course is absolutely fine but please keep in mind at all times how any silly actions could affect our reputation as both fans and as a club in general. For those debating making the journey, there is still time to get online and book a last minute flight for a day trip, or even a late hotel booking for the weekend. It’s always worth a ‘Google’ as you never know you might find some last minute deals! Most (or possibly all) of the fans who are staying for at least a night are accomodating themselves in St Peter Port, Guernsey’s main town. For those arriving on Friday 26th, there is a group of fans planning to visit some local cultural sites and explore what Guernsey has to offer. This possibly includes Victor Hugo’s house (Hauteville House), Castle Cornet and La Vallette Underground Military Museum. Saturday, pre kick-off at 12pm midday, there is a sports bar on the way to the ground called ‘The Doghouse’. Guernsey’s chairman Mark LeTissier has recommended to us that fans can drink there before the game as it is very welcoming. We are planning to stay there for around an hour then walk to Footes Lane at 1pm so that we arrive with plenty of time to spare. In terms of recent form, Guernsey have lost their last 4 games in a row, scoring none and conceding 15. Their last win was on 2nd December 2017, at home to VCD Athletic when they won 4-2. In their last 10 games they have won 1, drawn 1 and lost 8. Important info: Entry is £10 for a seated ticket, £6 for a ground standing ticket or £1 for U16s. For more information please visit Guernseyfc.com The E111 (EHIC) European Health Card is NOT VALID on Guernsey. We recommended that anyone going takes out travel insurance which won’t cost anymore than £10 for as long as the weekend. NHS services are not available on the island which means you will not be covered for any medical costs. Fans are encouraged to wear YELLOW on match day, whether that’s fancy dress, a yellow away AUFC shirt or just a t-shirt. This is because Guernsey play in green for their home games so let’s go yellow! For those of you flying to the island, photo ID is required, anything from a passport, drivers license (provisional is ok), or even citizens ID are all acceptable. For more info please check with your airline. As far as we are aware, there are no charges for mobile data roaming whilst on The Channel Islands, but we recommend you get in touch with your mobile provider for more information or else risk incurring additional charges whilst using 3G/4G, texting, making calls, etc. Wifi should be available in your hotel and most bars. The road name for Guernsey FC: Footes Lane The road name for The Doghouse Sports Bar: The Rohais Guernsey postcodes don’t seem to work very well on Google Maps so we don’t recommend using any postcodes that you find online. Finally, the match will be streamed at Homelands via a live link which will be provided by Guernsey FC. The bar will be open upstairs on match day for fans to come and watch, kick off is at 2pm. We hope everyone has a wonderful trip and let’s go for a great 3 points!
