Lyzee tells us his thoughts on preseason…

We caught up with Ashford United’s manager Danny Lye after a busy preseason. Read his thoughts on how he feels the squad are shaping up and his hopes for the season….

So preseason has finished and we are where we need to be.
The squad has settled In nicely with the new additions and the atmosphere around the place is how I like it.
Anyone one who knows me will know that I like players/staff relaxed and enjoying themselves having a laugh and joke to take their minds off the real task in hand.
I have been privileged to work under lots of very good managers who all have there different styles.
I have always felt I played better when the dressing room had good strong characters who knew when to have fun and when to go to war.
This is what I started to build last year and I hope to finish this year as we search for trophies.
I have learnt a lot about my squad during preseason and the one thing I certainly know is we have a lot of winners in the team that don’t like losing even if it is a preseason friendly.

Last year we fell short due to a squad that did not have enough depth or cover to deal with injuries. This year my task of picking the team will be a great deal tougher and I look forward to the challenge of keeping all my players happy.
We have played a few different formations during preseason to make sure the team is flexible in changing shape to suit oppositions tactics. It’s important the players know there jobs in whatever formation we play.

While results are not important it has been nice to test ourselves against higher league teams and hold our own against some very good players.
This should hopefully show the fans we mean business this season and want to win win win.

It’s the FA Cup on Saturday in our first game of the new season. It’s a good way to start a new season, playing in the worlds oldest, and most famous cup competition. We had a great adventure in the FA Vase last season, maybe we can have a nice little run in the FA Cup this season to?

So come on down and support your local club, get behind us and help us achieve great things for Ashford’s premier football club.
I can assure you, all the players in this talented squad are fired up and ready to give the club everything in our search for success.
Let’s all do this together as a team.

See you on Saturday.

Lyzee
