The club can now announce the departure of Max Watters as he links up with Darren Ferguson at the Yorkshire club.

Max signs with Doncaster on a two-year-deal, and the 19-year old will join the club on 1st July 2018.

Speaking to Doncaster Rovers FC, Max can’t wait to get started:

“I’m over the moon, it’s always been an aim of mine to try and get a contract in the EFL so now it’s about working hard to keep improving.

It’s such a friendly club and when I came here on trial they couldn’t have done anymore for me, the squad were really welcoming from my first day.

I noticed the manager likes to give young players a chance, hopefully I’ve made my mark with the coaching staff to show them what I’m capable of.”

Max also spoke with us here at Ashford United, following this great opportunity for him:

“Thank you to everyone at Ashford United, especially Jason [Whitmore] for giving me the opportunity to play week in week out. Also to the fans for their fantastic support. I’d like to wish Ashford United great success for next season and beyond.”

Max scored scored 8 goals for Ashford United Football Club overall in 27 appearances (25 starts and 2 subs). He signed for Ashford on 7th September 2017 and made his debut on 9th September 2017 at home vs Molesey FC in the Bostik League South Division.

One game in particular he will be remembered for will be against Thamesmead Town FC at home on 2nd December 2017 when he scored a hat trick and set up another in the 4-1 win.

He played his last game for AUFC on 20th January 2018 when he picked up a nasty injury in the 7th minute at home to Hythe Town FC.

Jason Whitmore, who signed Watters last campaign, had this to say following this news:

“When I first saw Max last season, I knew then he was a special talent. He has all the attributes needed to make it as a pro footballer. This will be a perfect move for him to continue his development.”

From everyone here at Ashford United, we are gutted to lose such a talent, but we can safely say we wish you all of the best in your future football career and we will be keeping an eye on your progress.

We HAD Watters, super Max Watters, I just don’t think you understand! He’s Jason Whitmore’s man, he’s better than Zidane, we had super Max Watters!
