Club News Ashford United striker Stuart Zanone has left the club by mutual consent and is now expected to join Hythe Town FC. Zanone ,who scored 47 goals last season to sweep the board at the club’s player-of-the-Year awards night, indicated that he wanted to play at a higher level and the club didn’t feel it right to stand in his way. All at Ashford United would like to thank Stuart for his immense contribution in his relatively short spell at Homelands. Stuart’s seven goals in a game at Lingfield will live long in the memory and his breaking of Alan Morton’s long standing record will ensure that he will always remain a club legend. We wish him well in his future career. The latest update on the 3g pitch. The pitch has not been waterlogged in any way in the last few days despite the torrential downpours and flooding that has occurred locally in the Kingsnorth and surrounding areas. The actual testing of the 3g pitch will now take place on the 11th September. The pitch has not yet been tested and certainly not failed. We can confirm that it has been impossible to top dress the pitch with the crumb rubber due to the wet conditions and through our brilliant suppliers of the handling machinery, Lister and Wilder, they have managed to obtain a machine to help with the initial rubber dressing which will take place over the next few days and like most farmers would agree, a dry day or two would help out immensely! The lab tests of the grass have been completed and passed by the governing authority as a product that satisfies all the criteria to be able to achieve a Fifa grade 2 pitch which is of International playing quality. The team will be able to train on the pitch from Tuesdays training night onward. Danny Lye, the newly appointed team manager, is delighted with that news and will concentrate on set play pieces as well as general fitness exercises. Canterbury City Game. The game scheduled Canterbury City v AUFC has been altered to be played at REACHFIELDS ,Hythe Towns’ home ground on Bank Holiday Monday 31st August with a 7-45pm kick off. Talks are under way with other clubs to obtain another striker to replace Stuart Zanone. The club cannot yet confirm a signing but this website will report the details as soon as they are confirmed. Finally, congratulations to Jason Whitmore and his under 18 Ryman Youth League team who this week took on Thamesmead Town away and were worthy victors with a 5-1 win. Well done to all involved.
