As we get nearer to the start of pre-season, we catch up with forward Clark Woodcock and get his thoughts on everything Ashford United, and get to know him as a player a bit better!

So Clark, you’ve come up through the youth system of Ashford United, at what age did you start playing for an Ashford United team and how did it come about playing for our youth teams?

“I started playing for Ashford at the age of 10 as it was the local club to me.”

What are your most outstanding memories of your time in the youth set up?

“It would have to be the FA youth cup, really exciting to be playing in that cup as all the best youth teams in the county are involved.”

Over the last few seasons you’ve made your debut for the Nuts & Bolts first team and gone on to rack up a decent amount of appearances, how does it feel playing for the senior team?

“It’s been a great experience playing for the first team and I hope it has started to prepare me early for men’s football in the up coming seasons.”

What was it that made you want to stay with us here at Homelands for another season? Are there any clubs that expressed an interest in signing you?

“Ashford is my home town and I enjoy everything about the club and fans, if I was to ever move on it would only be to a higher level.”

You’re quickly becoming a fans favourite at Homelands, with your pace and quick feet you’re exciting to watch. What’s your favoured position to play? And do you feel you’re getting stronger and better as you gain more experience?

“My preferred position is right wing, I prefer it to the left side as delivering crosses is my aim with my right foot, and yes the more and more minutes I get improves me always.”

You notched your first senior goal back in March up at East Grinstead, and a cracking bit of play and strike it was too Clark, goal of the month winner for March in fact. You must have been delighted to score your first goal like that?

“That was my most memorable part of the season if not football so far, it was great to finally get my first goal and was happy of how it went in.”

At the age of just 19 you’ve got years ahead of you in the beautiful game, what’re your ambitions? Also what are you doing away from football, work wise?

“Football is the main focus of mine and of course I want to just carry on playing at the highest level that I can. I’m currently working on a building site in the week but hope that’s not forever haha.”

Last season was tough on you younger players, a lot was put on your shoulders after two games into the campaign, how did that affect you as a player?

“It was definitely hard for everyone at the club once the big change happened and I’ve never had anything like that happen so it was definitely something we all learnt from.”

Finally Clark, thank you for giving up your time to speak to us, good luck for the coming season, how are you feeling fitness wise? And do you have anything you’d like to say to our fans?

“It’s been a pleasure, I’m writing this in June so haven’t started pre season back yet however I’ve been doing my own bit and feel good! The fans have stuck by us through the lows so now it’s time to enjoy the highs!”
