Ashford out of Vase

Ashford Vs Hanwell in the FA Vase

A combination of a difficult pitch and rustiness cost Ashford as our exploits in the FA Vase came to a halt on an action packed night at the Homelands.

Ashford took 20 minutes to get themselves into the ebb and flow of the game, with Hanwell edging it to that point, But at half time and the score 0 – 0, Ashford looked the more comfortable.

In the second half, Buster Smissen broke away on the 61st minute and gave Ashford the lead.

The heavy pitch was by now having an effect on the legs of our lads and on the 70th minute, despite two fantastic saves by Joe Mant, a retreating Ben Jordan bundled into the striker and being last man meant he received a red card and gave Hanwell a penalty, which they greatfully converted.

Down to 10 men, Hanwell played the space well  and on 87 minutes they scored what turned out to be the match winner.

With Ashford looking for an equaliser and tensions spilling over, Jordon Miller got involved in the centre circle and received a second yellow resulting in a  red.It was a retaliation fracas which the referee did not see the punch handed out to Jordan but saw the retaliation albeit nothing more than a push and verbal abuse from Jordan. The referee witnessed half of the goings on and instantly issued the yellow followed by the dismissing red.

An end then to our FA Vase run but we can now concentrate on the league which we have a very good chance of winning but we have a fair bit to go to get there!
