Posted in News on 13th October 2017

Zanone brothers, Healey and Cooney all join Whitmore's squad.

Stuart Zanone and Jack Healey return to Homelands and could be involved in tomorrow’s match!

The club are extremely pleased to welcome back ex striker and record holder Stuart Zanone!

Zanone (32) scored 47 goals in 39 games (3,345 minutes) for Ashford United, mainly in the 2014/2015 season, making his last appearance for the club very early on in 2015/2016.

Stuart held the record of most goals in one season for AUFC when he scored all of his 47 goals in that season, before it was beaten by Shaun Welford last campaign.

Stuart still holds 2 records for the club, most goals scored in one game (7 vs Lingfield) and also has the best goals to minute ratio for Ashford United, with a goal every 71 minutes, better than Welford, Takaloo and Booth (1 in 80, 84 and 106 respectively).

Stu scored 4 hat tricks for AUFC in his last spell for us (3, 3, 4 and 7 goals), and scored in 7 consecutive goals, scoring 16 when the sequence was 2,2,3,2,1,2,4, and also in 11 consecutive league games! Take that Jamie Vardy!

Sam (29), like his brother, also served in the army. He primarily plays as a centre back who has previously played for Thamesmead, Witham, Waltham Abbey and more recently, last season played for Punjab United, winning the double.

Stuart played his last game for Takeley FC on Wednesday evening and scored their 3rd in a 3-1 victory.

We also welcome back ex Nuts & Bolts defender/midfielder Jack Healey.

Jack was with us in the 2015/2016 season, scoring on his debut in a 2-1 home with against Holmesdale on 10th October 2015.

Jack also scored against Canterbury, with his 2 goals coming in 18 appearances (1,376 minutes), and his last match for us was a 4-3 home defeat to Croydon Athletic on 8th March 2016.

Finally, we’d pleased to welcome full back Tommy Cooney to Ashford United.

Tommy has signed from Hayes & Yeading FC, having also played for the likes of Bognor Regis, Margate, Boston United, Morecambe & came through the Brentford FC academy.

Tomorrow, we host East Grinstead Town at home, who sit bottom of the table, just 2 points below ourselves.

Get yourself down to Homelands tomorrow afternoon for this 3pm kick off and see our new signings in action! Come on Ashford!!!
