Ashford United were hit for 5 on Saturday afternoon by Ryman South side Herne Bay F.C. United gave a very good account of themselves throughout the 90 minutes and to say the scoreline didn’t reflect the game would be an understatement. United were knocked back early on after the referee awarded Bay a penalty which Danny Walder stepped up and slotted home.

Shortly afterwards Herne Bay slotted home from 12 yards. However all was not lost as United won a penalty which Paul Booth tucked away in true Booth style. Shortly after this Herne Bay won and scored their second penalty of the afternoon after Zanone was fouled in the box. In what had been a goal fest first half United still had time for another goal. Rory Hill managed to beat the offside trap and get his toe to the ball and knock it past the advancing Herne Bay keeper. The second half saw Tasser Hassan miss from 6 yards after a beautiful cross from Rory Hill. Lyzee then tried to freshen things up by introducing Luke Eldridge and 3 of our U18’s. Herne Bay showed their league seniority with further goals from former Ashford United Striker Stuart Zanone and a 89th minute goal from Sam Hasler.

Final score: Herne Bay 5-2 Ashford United
