Match Preview: Sittingbourne Our second meeting this season! This weekend, Saturday 7th October 2017, we welcome Sittingbourne FC to Homelands, 3pm kick off in the Preliminary Round of The Buildbase FA Trophy. This is the first time we’ve appeared in this competition since 2009, when we lost 3-1 away at Bognor Regis. Last season, Sittingbourne went out in this stage of the Trophy when they lost at home, two goals to nil against Bury Town FC, in front of a crowd of 150. We have already met The Brickies once this season, on bank holiday Monday 28th August when we drew 0-0 at Woodstock Park. We’re one of only three teams to keep a clean sheet against the Bourne so far this season and Jason Whitmore will be wanting to do the same Saturday afternoon. In terms of recent results, Sittingbourne are way up in the form table as they have won their last 5 games on the trot, scoring 12 and conceding 3. Ashford have won 2 of their last 6 games, scoring 4 but conceding 10. Sittingbourne currently sit second in the Bostik League South Division, though temporarily sat top after Tuesday night’s results, before Lewes leapfrogged them back after their win on Wednesday evening. Be sure to purchase a match day programme which features Micky Phillips on the cover, as he made his 75th AUFC appearance on Tuesday evening. Within the programme, Ben Davisson tells us which current Arsenal player is the best player he’s played against, and which present day veteran Premier League striker once scored 5 goals against his team! Head steward David Chalmers tells us why he’s an Ashford United fan and his favourite memories, whilst club historian Allan Wilson takes us back to our past meetings with Sittingbourne.
