An interesting clash vs top of the table

This Saturday 9th December 2017 we travel down to East Sussex to take on top of the league Lewes FC at The Dripping Pan.

Having played in the National League (which was known as the Conference Premier) back in 2007/2008, the Rooks have dropped down 3 times in recent years and finished in 9th place in our league last season, but it seems their fortunes could be changing as they sit in 1st place, 4 points above Corinthian-Casuals and with a game in hand!

This certainly won’t be one of our easiest matches of the season, but this will be the best time for us to face them having just won 4-1 against Thamesmead Town thanks to a Max Watters’ hat trick last weekend.

Lewes have won 3 of their last 6 league matches, drawing the other 3 games including last weekend when they draw 1-1 away to Greenwich Borough, scoring a late equaliser. They also draw 2-2 at home to Thamesmead Town back on the 18th November.

In all competitions, Lewes have scored 7 goals in their last 6 games, conceding 6 in that period. Where as Ashford have scored 8 in our last 6 and conceded 20, though the recent arrivals of Richeford, Fitchett and Toure may see a vast improvement in defence.

Pat Kingwell should still be absent as he recovers from concussion, and we may still see another new arrival between now and then.

Lewes’ ground, ‘The Dripping Pan’ is located very near their local station. Lewes railway station is about a two minute walk from the Dripping Pan. When you exit the main entrance, turn left and follow the path over the bridge then bear left at the roundabout. The ground will be in front of you.

If travelling by car, The Dripping Pan is at the very start of Mountfield Road, directly behind the station. If you are coming from the north or west, turn off the A27 for Lewes and turn right (signposted Rodmell and Piddinghoe) after about a mile at the first set of traffic lights, adjacent to the prison. Follow that road until you get to a mini roundabout by The Swan pub and turn left. Continue along this road and over the mini-roundabout straight into Mountfield Road where the ground is on your right hand side.

There are limited car parking spaces in the Sussex Downs College and Priory School car parks down Mountfield Road past the ground. Metered street parking is available and there is a pay and display car park directly outside the ground (operating 9am-5pm Monday to Saturday) but please be aware that Lewes has quite a number of ‘keen’ traffic wardens patrolling the town so please purchase a ticket where required.

Entrance for all fans is via the main turnstiles in the Mountfield Road car park. The Dripping Pan has a bar (The Rook Inn) in which you can sample a pint of fine Harveys beer brewed in the town along with guest bottled beers. They have BT Sports on in the bar, and a have number of refreshment outlets around the ground serving food.
