The latest news about players at Ashford United from Tommy Warrilow
We caught up with the gaffer this week to keep us updated with injuries, suspensions and transfers in the club.
“We say goodbye to Ozzy [Usman Adeniji] after just a few games. Ozzy wanted more game time but with one more striking option coming in, in Jay May, that was looking less likely so it worked out best for both parties that he departed after our game on Saturday, good luck to him and we thank him for his 4 goals in 6 appearances.
On the injury front, we’re not going to rush Jay [May] back as he’s been out for 5 or 6 weeks but he is getting closer to coming back every day, and hopefully we’ll get him back sooner than later.
Theo [Fairweather-Johnson] is still struggling with his ankle ligament injury but hopefully be in the squad on Tuesday as he is working hard on his recovery.
Last week we saw Stefan Cox return from suspension and he came off the bench against Three Bridges. On Saturday Lea Dawson‘s 3 match suspensions ends and he may feature against Sevenoaks Town.
Finally, Under 18s captain and midfielder Callum Edwards joined Kennington FC last week and featured in their 3-1 victory over Kent Football United FC at Homelands last Saturday.
Competition is strong and once injuries are over our squad will be complete but it’s fantastic to have players fighting for the shirts and wanting to push for a place in the starting XI. When I came here, we basically didn’t have a bench, but now we’ve built a very strong team who will all have an impact to our final push as the season closes.”
