The club can confirm that Sam Corne has departed the club after almost a year at Ashford United Football Club.

We announced that Sam signed for the Nuts and Bolts almost 12 months ago on 6th June 2018 from Greenwich Borough, and he has had a very good season with us. He captained the side into the playoffs, making a total of 40 appearances across all competitions, scoring 21 goals in the process.

His previous season he made 43 appearances and scored just 5 goals for Greenwich Borough!

He made his debut in the first game of the season where he scored to help us beat Hythe Town 3-1 at Homelands in the league. For a chunk of the season he led the AUFC goalscoring chart before eventually was overtaken by Danny Parish, but every single one of his goals played a vital part of our promotion chase, including his double against Hastings United in the playoff semi final which saw us dramatically win in the last minute of extra time.

Sam has spoken to us this morning:

“I would just like to thank Ashford United for the last season. This has been one of my most enjoyable seasons to date whereby the board, management & most importantly the fans have been tremendous to me.

I wish you all the best moving forward & maybe we’ll meet again. Thank you, Corney x”

It’s not yet known where Sam will be heading, but we wish him all the best for his future and hope to see him do very well up the football pyramid!
