FA Vase dream over for United

United out of the Vase

United were comfortably beaten 3 – 0 by a well organised Salisbury this afternoon.

Ashford, who had scored 10 goals in the previous 2 league games, struggled to get going with Salisbury doubling up on Uniteds creative players and with no outlet, the defence found themselves hassled and resulted to long balls. Salisbury, with 2 class wingers, peppered the Ashford goal with crosses, and, once they adjusted themselves to the conditions, started to find their mark. The inevitable happened when Ashford conceded on the 27th minute. The sheer class of Ashford’s wide players led to a couple of excellent oppotunities, but Ashford failed to convert.

2 down by the end of the first half, Ashford conceded early in the second, and a combination of Salisbury taking their foot of the peddle and Ashford adjusting their playing style led to Ashford being able to hold possession and create more opportunities. Unfortunately Ashford could not convert any of their late possession in goals.

The defeat ends Uniteds interest in the competition.

Ashford United would like to acknowledge the traveling fans, whom turned up in force and sung from the kick off to the bar well after the game had ended. The home fans and official were in awe and could not complement them enough. You guys did us proud!

We would also like to acknowledge and thank Supporters Club Chairman Ernie Warren for his fantastic efforts in providing transport to the FA Vase games, This has allowed countless Ashford fans who would not of been able to see the games, to support their club with the support in turn spurring on the team.
