This Saturday 26th August, we welcome VCD Athletic to Homelands, for an early season bottom of the table clash!
After two games, both sides sit at the foot of the table after scoring no goals and picking up no points.
United, sit 22nd after an opening game of the season defeat at home to Carshalton Athletic, followed by a 5-0 thrashing away to South Park which saw the departure of Danny Lye from the club.
The Vickers, sit bottom in 24th, were also thrashed 5-0, but this time on the opening day of the season at home to Faversham. They were then thrashed again, 3-0 away to Whyteleafe the following Tuesday.
At least the Nuts & Bolts have picked up a victory in the meanwhile, after winning 3-1 away to Redhill in the Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup, thanks to goals from Matt Day (2) and Brandon Williams. Athletic, however, lost 3-2 away to East Grinstead Town in the same round of that competition, and also lost on penalties at home to Phoenix Sports in the Kent Reliance Senior Cup on Tuesday 22nd August, on the same night that Ashford lost away to Herne Bay 2-0.
So not the best starts for either team, but perhaps one side will change their fortunes come 4.30pm on Saturday.
As well as welcoming the staff, players and fans of VCD Athletic, we will especially give a warm welcome back to current Athletic and ex Nuts & Bolts goalkeeper Joe Mant.
Matt Day recently returned from injury, so should be feeling fit after putting in 90 minutes in our last two matches, though Dan Stubbs and Frazer Walker look to still be sidelined.
Captain Richard Avery was sidelined midweek with a groin injury, though could return at the weekend, along with Luke Eldridge.
Kingwell remains suspended, whilst Kamurasi is off for a week or so, though Perkins has returned from holiday and may feature, and Phillips could be back from his recent ban.
Come on Ashford!!!
