Chambers Ready For Gills Paul Chambers is hoping to have Buster Smissen and Lee Winfield in the Ashford United ranks for Saturday's opening pre-season friendly against League Two champions Gillingham. Smissen has scored goals wherever he’s been while Winfield had a brief spell on loan at Homelands last season from friends Hythe Town. Mo Takaloo has left the club to join Whitstable but otherwise it’s a settled squad at United. Everyone’s looking forward to it and it should be a good occasion. Chambers said: “We’ll have around 20 players – some from last year and a few new additions. “Buster will be there and Lee Winfield will be too if he’s not working. “We have a couple of lads from Deal coming over as well. “A lot of the boys have stayed and the only way we’ll lose players is if we get rid of them. “They will be bringing first-team players down so it’ll be tough but it’s what you want, a friendly against Gillingham.” United resumed pre-season training last Saturday and had two sessions this week before taking on the Gills.
