Chambers on Cup Football

"I will not field a weak cup team" says Chambo.

Saturday 1st November brings cup football back to Homelands in the form of the Macron Southern  Counties East League  Challenge Cup.  Paul Chambers has stated he will field his strongest available team to compete in this Saturdays game against Deal Town.

Dogged by persistent injuries and coupled with a couple of squad members being unavailable due to work commitments, the United manager has not been able to select from a full squad since the opening game of the season .”We are continually looking to strengthen the squad and there should be some new players on view in the coming weeks” said Chambers. “Connor Coynes loan period from Folkestone Invicta has come to an end and he will return to Cheriton Road this week”.

The present league form of drawn 7, won 7 lost 1 is good enough at the moment to command second place in the league but we have at least another five teams snapping at our heels, however Chambo is adamant that there will be many a twist and turn before the league is won or lost.  “We will not lose ground this week in the league title chase  to either Erith and Belvedere or Phoenix Sports as both are involved in FA Vase games to Sussex teams. We are not in it until the next round due to the success that we had in the competition last season. The draw on Monday will have us in the hat so we will see where we go from there”.

Paul also commented . “Last week we had Stuart Zanone come off with a knee injury coupled with Gary Mickleburgh who played despite having bronchitis. The lad gave his all but I had to take him off as he was struggling being well short on breath. James Everitt played again but he is not fully fit as the foot injury he suffered a few weeks back is still troublesome. Pat Kingwell missed the Beckenham game due to a knee strain which showed up in last Thursdays training and by Saturday was well swollen so I decided to rest him and he should be back this Saturday to take his place against Deal” .

“We will definitely put out our strongest team against Deal as the fans want to see the best football that is on offer and we need to compete to the best of our ability in all games cup, league or whatever” said Chambers.

We look forward to the game and trust that the fans will get fully behind our team as they are definitely the added ingredient that makes that little bit extra to a teams performance.
