Singleton Barn 2-2 Ashford United 3rds (After Extra Time)
(Ashford United 3rds win 4-2 on penalties)

Aford Awards Division Three League Cup Semi Final

Played at The Ridge, Kennington on Sunday 17th March 2019

This was a good semi-final with both teams missing good chances to wrap the game up before extra time. Neither team sat back in this match with the game constantly flowing from end to end and both goal-keepers making some good saves.

The first half ended 0-0 and rightly so but in the second half the game really began to buzz. Singleton Barn took the lead and looked as if they would increase that lead only for United 3rds to be awarded a penalty which Daniel Davies put away to bring the game level.

Again Singleton Barn pushed forward and was awarded a direct free kick from just outside the penalty box which they took to good effect increasing their lead to 2-1. With five minutes to go before full time United 3rds won a corner which Jon Philo took and scored directly from the corner bringing the game level and taking us into extra time.

Once again both teams had their chances to wrap the game up but let numerous chances go begging. When we found ourselves in the penalty shoot out my nerves began to fray, this really was squeaky bum time.

Singleton Barn took the first penalty and Gregg Moncrieff made a great save to give United 3rds the edge. With the score standing at 3-2 to United 3rds, Gregg Moncrieff pulled off his second penalty save leaving Rhys Hodges to take the final penalty and give United 3rds their semi-final win as he slid the ball into the back of the net.

Gregg Moncrieff was Man of the Match for Ashford United 3rds and deservedly so. Obviously as Manager of the 3rds I am over the moon that we go through into the final but I feel that I have to pay credit to Singleton Barn who played a good game of football and refused to give up the fight. Well done United 3rds we now have a final to look forward too.
