Ashford United 3rds 3-2 AFC Guildhall

Guildhall Sheber Trophy Quarter Final

Played at The Ridge, Kennington on Sunday 10th March 2019

Following our loss to Bromley Green 1st team last Sunday I did not know what to expect from the lads in this quarter final. AFC Guildhall play in a division above us and sit 3rd in their table so we knew it would be a tough game and so it proved to be. The game flowed from end to end right from the first whistle but United 3rds took the lead when Craig Hagley slotted the ball into the back of the net. But it was not long before Guildhall pulled level when a shot deflected in off the post. With the game still flowing from end to end Craig Hagley popped up to score his second of the game and give Ashford United 3rds a first half lead. The second half followed along the lines of the first half with both teams continuing to press and with twenty minutes to go Guildhall were awarded a penalty allowing them to level the score at 2-2. With thoughts of playing extra time beginning to look likely United 3rds won a free kick five yards outside of the penalty box. It was man of the match Rhys Hodges who stepped up for United 3rds to take the free kick and duly planted the ball into the top right hand corner of the net to clinch a win. The 3rds now move into the Sheber Trophy Semi-Final their second Semi-Final of the season. It was a good game and an excellent win for the 3rds. Roger Hadlum Manager of Ashford United 3rds.
