Pilgrims FC 1-5 Ashford United 3rds
Sheber Challenge Cup 2nd Round
Played at Great Chart playing fields on Sunday 20th January 2019.
Sunday we travelled to Great Chart to play Pilgrims FC in the Sheber Cup 2nd round. United 3rds took the lead early on in the first half with a goal from Jordan Price who cut in from the right wing and shot from 10 yards. From then on the game was evenly balanced when new signing Joey Wealthyland (striker) hit a second goal to ease the pressure. Joey Wealthyland slotted in well with the team today and put in a good performance for his first match. As the second half approached Pilgrims began to build up momentum going forward and under continued pressure the 3rds conceded a penalty which Pilgrims scored from bringing them back into the game. The second half began with the 3rds defending a 2-1 lead against a team whose momentum was building strongly. To ease the pressure United 3rds made three changes and one of those changes brought on Rhys Hodges, who scored twice within ten minutes to seal the game. A fifth goal was added by right back Thomas Robinson. The all round performance of both teams was first rate making for a good match. Callum Cameron also came on from the subs bench to make his first appearance for the 3rds and showed some nice touches. Man of the match for United 3rds was Craig Hagley who’s all round game was solid. We now have a Quarter Final round match versus AFC Guildhall (date TBC) to look forward to, well done the 3rds. Cheers Roger Hadlum Manager of Ashford United 3rds.
