3-1 victory sees United win their 7th away win in a row
Ashford Spartans 1-3 Ashford United 3rds
Ashford & District Sunday League Division 3
Played at The Ridge, Kennington on Sunday 10th February 2019
This was a big game for both teams with Ashford United 3rds coming out winners 3-1. The pitch was boggy and sticky in places but both teams tried hard to play good football on a near impossible pitch. Most of the first half was played in Ashford Spartans half of the field with their goalkeeper making some excellent saves. But eventually Ashford 3rds broke through their defence and Jordan Price tucked the ball away to give United a 1-0 lead. United were able to hold onto that slender lead till halftime with both teams getting a deserved break and time to re-group. Right from the start of the second half United pushed forward with Craig Hagley extending the lead with a well taken goal within the first 5 minutes of the whistle. At this stage in the match Ashford Spartans began to push forward and the 2-0 lead was beginning to look shaky when Spartans pulled back a goal making the score 2-1 to United. With Spartans continuing to push forward and cause problems for united up popped man of the match for the second week running Joey Wealthyland to hit a 3rd goal for United giving them a 3-1 lead. But this 3rd goal only encouraged Spartans to continue going forward and under continued pressure United gave away a penalty. This penalty could have changed the game but United’s goalkeeper Jon Philo brought off a great save keeping the score at 3-1 and allowing United to see out the game and take all 3 points. Both teams can be pleased with the effort that they made in such bad conditions. Well played Joey Wealthyland and well played Ashford United 3rds. Cheers Roger Hadlum Manager of Ashford United 3rds.
