Ashford United 3rds 1 v 2 Biddenden FC

Ashford & District Sunday League Division 3

Played at The Ridge, Kennington on Sunday 13th January 2019.

To me this was one of them games that should have been a draw. Both teams needed the points to keep up the pressure on the top group and today they all went to Biddenden. The first half ended 0-0 but both teams had missed chances in a nervy first 45 minutes. In the second half Biddenden took the lead from a corner ball which was neatly headed home. Shortly after that following a change of players and system United 3rds drew level when Kyle Galea was pushed from behind in the 18 yard box earning the 3rds a penalty. The United Captain Daniel Davies stepped up and buried the ball into the back of the net bringing the scores level. From this moment on the game continually switched from end to end and both teams missed good chances to take all three points but eventually Biddenden snatched a win with a deflection that left the United 3rds keeper Jon Philo wrong footed. I was pleased with the all round performance of the team today and with their commitment to the game. Now we must return to Homelands and regroup ready for our next two matches which are both cup games. Jon Philo played a terrific game between the sticks and was voted man of the match. Well done United 3rds played well and deserved at least a point. Roger Hadlum Manager United 3rds.
