3rds Manager Roger Hadlum reports on opening day defeat
Park Farm Rangers 9 – 0 Ashford United 3rds
Yes, you have read the score line correctly. It is not a miss print; we lost 9-0 to a well organised team that knew what they had to do and went about the job with enthusiasm and discipline, which brings me to United 3rds. Where do I begin? In the men’s league the opposing Manager picks your man of the match, which in our case went to James Wratten-Wood, and it was deserved. 9 goals makes it sound as if we were torn apart, and for the first twenty minutes of the second half we were, but we had our chances and in this league you cannot allow chances to go begging. We also scored two own goals and gave away a penalty which did not help our cause. When I went into the dressing room after the game it was like going to a wake. I have never seen so many heads hung low. But I am if anything an optimist and I saw enough during the game to feel good about, and still believe that we will have a good season. The team will have learned a lot of lessons from this, and the players now have to show their metal and dig deep for the coming games, which I feel confident they will do. Cheers Roger Hadlum, Manager of United 3rds.
