Our 3rds drew 2-2 in first game of 2019!

Ashford & District Sunday League Division 3
Ashford United 3rds 2-2 Lydd Grasshoppers Reserves
I did not know what to expect when we took to the field this morning against Lydd Grasshopper Reserves FC. We had gone 6 weeks without a game and the last 3 weeks without a full training session and it showed. For the first 35 minutes of the game Lydd took us apart and we were lucky not to go 5 down. But some good goalkeeping by Jon Philo and last minute tackles by the back four kept us in the game and gave us a fighting chance. Man of the match Dan Davies (Capt) kept a tight control on the back line along with Sean Corps, who came on as sub after we went 2 nil down. Adam Heathcote moved into midfield to add strength and Gregg Moncrieff also came off the subs bench to add more punch up front. But it was Rhys Hodges who we have to thank for earning us a point with 2 excellently taken goals. In a strange way it can be considered a great result for us having found ourselves 2 goals down so early on in the game. We had to dig deep and keep going forward searching for goals and eventually they came. All the players gave a good account of themselves and I’m pleased with the way they kept fighting for the full ninety minutes. Well played the 3rds, Roger Hadlum, Manager of Ashford United 3rds.
