Ashford & District Sunday Football League Division 3

Biddenden FC 3-4 Ashford United 3rds

As a Manager my heart hates theses type of games. People often talk about a match being a game of two halves. This was a game of three halves and a cracking game at that. United 3rds played good football for the first 35 minutes with Liam Overy putting us into the lead with a good thirty yard strike. Rhys Hodges struck a second goal ten minutes later to give us a deserved two goal lead, and on 35 minutes Joe Heathcote scored a third and we looked in total control. As the first half was dying we gave away an own goal and that seemed to swing the game in Biddenden’s favour. From the start of the 2nd half Biddenden came out of the starting blocks first and began to take control of the game. Jon Philo worked hard to keep us in the game and all looked good until the Referee awarded Biddenden a penalty which gave Jon Philo no chance. Shortly after that they got their 3rd to draw level. This 3rd goal also seemed to be a wakeup call for United 3rds who dug deep and forced themselves back into the game with Rhys Hodges hitting the winner and his 2nd of the game. Rhys Hodges was also awarded man of the match, and well deserved too. Well played both teams. Cheers Roger Hadlum, Manager of Ashford United 3rds.
